H. E. Mr. Vyacheslav I. Trubnikov, Ambassador of Russian Federation to India, gave away the Award to Ms. Tara Negi (NGO-Concerned Action Now), wife of Prof. Varyam Singh, who received the same on behalf of her husband, presently abroad, at a felicitation ceremony organized at the Russian Centre of Science & Culture, 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on December 12, 2007.
Also present on the occasion was Mr. Alexander Sarymov, First Deputy Head of the Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Presenting an introductory note in the course of his welcome address, Mr. Fyodor A. Rozovskiy, Director, Russian Centre of Science & Culture, underscored the significance of the Award and pinpointed the meritorious services rendered by Prof. Varyam Singh in consolidating Russian-Indian relations on a broader spectrum of comprehension of Russian language and literature to a wider section of Indian readership.
In his complimentary address, Prof. R. Kumar, Rector, Jawaharlal Nehru University & President, INDAPRYAL, observed that Prof. Varyam Singh genuinely deserved the Award from the prestigious B. Yeltsin Foundation, considering the decades-long work of excellence to the best interest and benefit of Indian students providing them with essential guidance, inspiration and knowledge in Russian language and literature laying a strong edifice on Indo-Russian friendship and cooperation.
