News and Events /CHILDREN'S ANNUAL PAINTING EXHIBITION OPENED 17 Jan 2007


The Annual Painting Exhibition "Our Incredible World Through the Children's Eyes" by the students of the Children's Art School at the Russian Centre of Science (RCSC) was opened by Ms. Yamuna Shankar, General Manager, Shankar's International Children's Foundation, in the premises of the Roerichs' Museum at the RCSC, 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on January 16, 2007. The Exhibition, dedicated to India's Republic Day Celebrations, will continue till January 27, 2007.

Inaugurating the Exhibition by lighting the traditional lamp, Ms. Yamuna Shankar said that she felt honoured to be present at this wonderful world of children, and profusely lauded the high spirits and great endeavours of children. "My father, the late K. Shankara Pillai, who started the International Children's Competition in 1950, always believed in the ability of children to see beyond the very obvious. A display such as this one complements his views and reiterates our faith in them as future leaders", she pointed out.

Ms. Ekaterina Pokrovskaya, Designer and Art Teacher, Children's Art School, RCSC, introduced the budding artists, comprising 21 Indian and Russian students, and briefed the elite gathering of artists on the activities of the Art School, where the students are given training in painting, drawing, clay modeling and glass painting.

Certificates of Merit were given away to all the students for participating in the Annual Painting Exhibition, and Prizes were distributed to nine children for the Painting Competition "My Christmas Tree" by Ms. Yamuna Shankar and Mr. S. P. Govil, Hon. Secretary & Director, Nehru Bal Samiti.
