News and Events STUDENTS' PAINTING EXHIBITION INAUGURATED

New Delhi. January 21, 2008: : A week-long Exhibition of Paintings entitled "Our Latest Achievements" by Students of the Art School under the Russian Centre of Science & Culture was inaugurated by Mr. S. P. Govil, Freedom Fighter, Hon. Secretary & Director, Nehru Bal Samiti, at the RCSC, 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on January 18, 2008.

The function was attended by an elite gathering, including a galaxy of diplomatic corps social and cultural activists, educationists, political leaders, and others. Acknowledging the initiative taken by India-Russia Friendship Society in organizing the felicitation programme, the Chief Guest, Mr. Andrei A. Sorokin, Minister-Counsellor, Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, said that it is commendable that the party-to-party relations and people-to-people contacts between Russia and India have acquired new dimensions to the on-going bilateral relations. He reiterated that keeping in view the imperative of broader cultural bond between two countries everything possible support and cooperation from their side could be provided.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Gadzy M. Akhmedov, Deputy Director of RCSC, pointed out that the Exhibition assumes historic significance as it occurs just ahead of the forthcoming anniversary of the Republic Day of India, and assumes special dimension for being within the framework of the landmark Year of Russia in India. He congratulated the young artists, both from India and Russia, in their excellence and described them as the promise of future.

Opening the Exhibition, Mr. S. P. Govil, expressed deep appreciation on the imagination and artistic skill of young students which are worth emulating for art lovers in a broader sense. He described art as an appropriate medium for the promotion and consolidation of people-to-people relations between India and Russia. He lauded the excellent efforts made by the RCSC in encouraging the young talents through cultural programmes.

Over 60 paintings, drawn by students of the Art School over the period from August to December, 2007, are on display at the Exhibition. Thirty-five students were presented with Certificates of Merit for their participation in the painting competition

The Art School, founded in February 2005, is open for all starting from age of five with love and enthusiasm to learn the classical ways of painting, sketching, drawing and clay-modelling. The primary objective of the Art School is to make the Russian style of drawing and painting acceptable and meaningful to a broad section of the local Indian community. The courses of the School are based on traditional Russian method of teaching, which is well-known for its professional approach and adaptation to the students of any age.
