News and Events / PAINTING EXHIBITION OPENED
A 10-day-long Exhibition of Paintings by Contemporary Russian and Indian Artists, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC) and Artland, was opened at the RCSC on September 21, 2006. The Exhibition is coordinated by Ms. Surjit Akre, Eminent Artist and President, Roerichs' Art Club, RCSC. The exhibits comprise the works of those artists, whose work are noteworthy and relevant in the contemporary art scenario. The Exhibition showcases diverse thoughts and ideology of various artists. The riot of colours finds eloquent expression on the canvasses of various artists, with flamboyant forms and themes; those emerge out straight from their heart.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Sergey V. Cherkas, Deputy Director, RCSC, said that the Exhibition is yet another step towards promoting the interaction between Russian and Indian artists and strengthening of cultural ties between the two countries.

The Chief Guest at the function, Dr. K. R. Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Kirdokar Theratoronic Pvt. Ltd., observed that the faculty of art facilitates the process of intellectual development of people cutting across all barriers of life and in the long run materializes harmony and co-existence. He lauded he efforts of the Russian Centre of Science & Culture in organizing events aimed at consolidating cultural bonds between the peoples of India and Russia. Dr. Singh spelled out words of appreciation to the brilliant works of artists on display at the Exhibition.

Russian landscapes of different seasons form the topic of oil on canvas painted by artists such as Vladimir Nadezhin, Vladimir Velichko, Ekaterina Pokrovskaya and Lyudimila Chakraborty. Surjit Akre's painting "Time Image" shows that time is relevant in every one's life, and her "Surya Puja" is based on man's relationship with nature.
Gurucharan Singh has used acrylic medium on paper, and his paintings depict human relationship and nature. Vijender Sharma's "In Deep Meditation" depicts the extreme stage of meditation and has used charcoal on paper with golden colour. Vrandavn Solanki's lines and figures have his distinct style. Asit Patnaik's painting is an expression of human relationship. Sanjay Kumar's "Dormant Desires" depicts the unconventional desires of man. Madhusudan Kumar's "Narad Brahma" depicts a sitar player, where the musician becomes music himself. Lalitha Lajmi's expressive woman on paper has a subtle and delicate essence. P.U. Sarkar's work "Sita's Desire" depicts a story of women's liberation.
