News and Events / PAINTING EXHIBITION INAUGURATED
New Delhi, May 24, 2007: An Exhibition of Reproduction of Paintings by renowned Russian Artist Mikhail Nesterov: "HOLY SURROUNDING WORLD AND NATURE SCAPES: INDIAN AND RUSSIAN VISION", dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the Russian artist, and Original Paintings by noted Indian Artist D. P. Sibal, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC) and Roerichs' Art Club, was opened by H. E. Dr. Mohamed Higazy, Ambassador of Egypt to India, by lighting the ceremonial lamp at a colourful function amidst a distinguished gathering at the RCSC, 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on May 23, 2007. The Exhibition will be on at the RCSC till June 2, 2007.

Welcoming the elite gathering comprising envoys and diplomats from several Delhi-based embassies, artists, critics and media people, Deputy Director of the RCSC, Dr. Sergey Cherkas, pointed out that the Exhibition acquires new dimension with the projection of the masterpieces of an outstanding Russian artist and excellent works of a famous Indian artist. Dwelling upon the artistic genius of Mikhail Nesterov, Dr. Cherkas said that his religious paintings are much influenced by modern style. He cited some of his works such as "Hermit", "Vision to Youth Barthologmew", "Youth of Saint Sergey Radonezhsky", "Tzarevich Dmitry", "Philosophers", "Archbishop", etc., as examples of his masterpieces.
Opening the Exhibition, H. E. Dr. Mohamed Higazy, Ambassador of Egypt to India, observed that painting is an effective medium of art with a soothing and aesthetic effect. He made a note of deep appreciation on the spell reflected in the illustrious works of both the Russian Artist Mikhail Nesterov and Indian Artist D. P. Sibal. He lauded the commendable efforts taken by the RCSC in promoting the cultural bonds between Russia and India through such joint exhibitions.

Sharing his impressions, Indian Artist D. P. Sibal said that the current Exhibition with excellent response is a wonderful experience in his artistic career. He is an artist of diverse talents, and the spectrum of his creative genius encompasses many hues and dimensions, though painting remains his abiding love. A Fellow of the International Institute of Arts and Letters, Switzerland, he participated in several outstanding gallery shows and his works exhibited in leading art centres and cultural institutions in India and abroad. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards.
