News and Events /PAINTING EXHIBITION BY KLERA SINGH OPENED

New Delhi, November 26, 2007: : A Solo Show "Different Strokes" by Russian Compatriot Artist Ms. Klera Singh, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC), Roerichs' Art Club & Delhi Association of Russian Compatriots, was opened by Ms. Arti Mehra, Hon'ble Mayor of Delhi, at the RCSC, 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on November 23, 2007. A self-taught painter with several solo exhibitions to her credit and working in the Russian Department of All-India Radio, Ms. Klera Singh is the President of Delhi Association of Russian Compatriots.

Inaugurating the week-long exhibition by lighting the traditional lamp, Ms. Arti Mehra, Mayor of Delhi, described the artistic endeavour of the Russian Compatriot Artist Ms. Klera Singh as a remarkable contribution to the long-standing Indo-Russian cultural ties. Pointing out that the artist's works reflecting in themselves the expression of love and harmony really demonstrate the fusion of cultural traditions. She wished the artist for her pains-taking efforts and congratulated the organizers in highlighting the skill of veterans.

Earlier, welcoming the elite gathering of artists, art-lovers and art-critics, Director of the RCSC, Mr. Fyodor A. Rozovskiy, said closely associated with the cultural activities of the RCSC for the past many years, Ms. Klera Singh, in her dual-capacity as Journalist-cum-artist, has made decisive contributions to the strengthening of cultural bond between the two countries. Being a Russian Compatriot, married to an Indian and having spent many decades in India, she had the advantage for studying from close quarters the cultural heritage, national ethos and traditions of this country, Mr. Rozovskiy added.

Eulogizing the painting skill of Ms. Klera Singh, Eminent Art Critic, Mr. Keshav Malik, noted that she has seemingly inspired and influenced by the works of legendary Indian painters Amrita Gill and Anjoli Ela Menon, which is apparently evident in her works. He made complementary note of the splendour and vibrancy with which the artist has depicted the colourful life of Lord Krishna capturing on her canvases.
