News and Events/CHEKHOV'S PLAY BY CHILDREN ENTHRALS AUDIENCE

New Delhi, June 27, 2007: A humorous Hindi play entitled "Ye Hai Chekhov", based on selected three short stories by Anton Chekhov, the eminent Russian short-story writer, and presented by children in the age-group of 8 to 13, at the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC), 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on June 26, 2007, virtually enthralled the audience.

Jointly organized by the RCSC and Parichay Sahitya Parishad, the function was dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of Indo-Russian Diplomatic Relations and the Year of Russian Language the World Over. The play, a hilarious situational comedy prepared for the summer theatre workshop and organized by well-known television artist Mrs. Kanupriya, was directed by Fareed Ahmed. The background music provided to the play was borrowed from the works of famous Russian composer Tchaikovsky.

Sharing her impressions, Mrs. Maria B. Pavlova, Senior Executive and Programme Coordinator, RCSC, said that packed by abundant humour, the play presented by innocent kids in an apparently professional style took the audience to an enchanting world. She thanked the young budding artists and the organizers of the play. Later, certificates of merit were also distributed.

According to Mrs. Kanupriya, the play, characterizing the Russian realities of the pre-Revolutionary situation, narrated the common life with all its problems and trivialities one comes across. Synchronizing with suitable music, the performance of young talents materialized the true reflection of Chekhov's extravagantly merry story contents, she added.
