News and Events RICH TRIBUTES PAID TO JAWAHARLAL NEHRU AT RCSC

New Delhi, May 28, 2008:: Glowing tributes were paid to Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru by speakers at a function, dedicated to the memory of the architect and first Prime Minister of free India. The function, “Jawaharlal Nehru and Common and Common Historical Roots of Slavonic and Indian Culture”, was organized jointly with India-Russia Friendship Society at the Russian Centre of Science & Culture, 24, Ferozseshah Road, on May 27, 2008.

            

The Chief Guest of the function, Mr. Jai Prakash Agarwal, M.P. (Rajya Sabha), President, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, lauded the significant contributions made by Jawaharlal Nehru to the development of India making her a power to reckon with in the international arena. Thanks to his vision and dynamism, India won a niche in the world map with its non-aligned foreign policy status, he noted. Mr. Agarwal pointed out that as one of the pioneers of Indo-Russian relations, Punditji visualized promising future in India’s friendship and cooperation with Russia, to the best interest of prosperity and world peace.

Earlier, in the course of welcoming a large gathering of people from all walks of life, Mr. Gadzhi Akhmadov, Deputy Director, RCSC, described Jawaharlal Nehru as a multi-dimensional and dynamic personality, brilliant statesman and nationalist leader, who, as the first Prime Minister of India and pioneer of Indo-Russian relations, gave novel spirit, life and vitality to bilateral ties between Russia and India. Referring to the century-old historic ties between Slavic world and India, he said that the similarities found between Slavonic and Indian languages as well as the affinity discovered in culture and traditions of Slavic and Indian people point at deep roots of common heritage.

After paying floral tributes to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru by the speakers and other guests, Mrs. Maria B. Pavlova, Senior Executive and Programme Coordinator, RCSC, made a Presentation “Slavonic Culture and India”, which underscored the common historical roots of Slavonic and Indian cultures. The presentation featured that the history of ties between Slavic world and India dates back to thousands of years, and many Indians and Russians have always regarded the two nations’ affinity as an essential part of bilateral cultural contacts, which may possibly form the basis of the mutual spiritual attraction between the two countries that has lasted for centuries.

Sharing his impressions, Major Dalbir Singh, Secretary, AICC, hailed the signal contributions made by Jawaharlal Nehru, which raised the image of India before world nations. He commended the vision of Punditji in laying a firm foundation of Indo-Russian relations which stood the test of time culminating into strategic partnership. Underlining the efforts and initiatives taken by Jawaharlal Nehru, Major Ved Prakash, Secretary, AICC, lauded the indomitable spirit shown by the architect of free India in bringing steady economic development and having a leading position in international affairs,

Paying rich tributes to the noble services of Jawaharlal Nehru, Ms. Alka Lamba, Secretary, AICC, described him as a world leader of brought great prestige to the country and its people before the world.

Mementos in memory of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru were presented to distinguished Russian and Indian personalities on the occasion.
