New Delhi, Sep 06, 2007:The Russian Children’s Painting Exhibition, titled “What do the Children the World Over Draw?”, dedicated to the International Day of Learning (Teacher’s Day), was opened today at the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC), 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, by the Chief Guest, Mr. S. P. Govil, Freedom Fighter, Hon. Secretary & Director, Nehru Bal Samiti.

Welcoming a group of children drawn from Delhi schools and their parents, Dr. Sergey V. Cherkas, Deputy Director, RCSC, described the function as a unique one highlighting the artistic talent of Russian children coinciding with an important day in the sphere of learning. He hoped that it would be an ideal occasion for the student community to draw inspiration from. “After displaying the paintings for a week in the RSSC, the same will be gifted to the Nehru Bal Samiti”, Dr. Cherkas pointed out.

Describing the key importance of the Teacher’s Day, which is widely marked in the Russian Federation, Mrs. Maria B. Pavlova, Senior Executive & Programme Coordinator, RCSC, made an interesting observation on how the teacher community is held with great reverence in Russia, adding thereof the momentous teacher-student relationship being maintained.

Appreciating the artistic imagination and excellence of Russian children, Mr. S. P. Govil noted that in his close comprehension he found promising future for more and more interaction and mutual learning in the field of art and culture between the children of India and Russia. He expressed his happiness over the bilateral cooperation between the Nehru Bal Samiti and the Russian Centre of Science & Culture in promoting the young talents on a wider spectrum, particularly from among the lower economic strata of the society, which would go a long way in their physical, mental and intellectual development. He introduced to the gathering Ms. Gurbachan Kaur, Principal, Bal Vikas Vidyalaya, Trilokpuri, winner of President’s National Award for Teachers in 2003, and Master Chandramohan, Student of V Class from the same school, who excelled in an elocution competition by presenting a speech extempore, assisted by Teacher Mr. Brahma Singh.
