News and Events <>>/RICH TRIBUTES PAID TO 20TH CENTURY RUSSIAN POETS
New Delhi, May 7, 2007: Rich tributes were paid to Russian poets of 20th century at a Literary Evening, dedicated to the 120th Birth Anniversary of Russian poet Igor Severyanin and 130th Birth Anniversary of Russian poet Maximilian Voloshin, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC) and Parichay Sahitya Parishad, at 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on May 4, 2007.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Maria B. Pavlova, Senior Executive & Programme Coordinator, RCSC, noted that first part of the 20th century, when Russian poets Igor Severyanin and Maximilian Voloshin lived, was literally the Russian Silver Age. She further said that Sergey Esenin was also one of the most distinguished poets of the same period. She also recited the English translation of some of his poems.
Mrs. Urmil Satyabhushan, President, Parichay Sahitya Parishad, said that Russian poets are the mirrors of their time and that the Indian poets drew great inspiration from them. She pointed out that interaction between writers and poets of the two countries go a long way in solidifying the cultural bond.
A number of Indian poets in the languages of Hindu, Urdu and Punjabi from Delhi, Faridabad, Gaziabad, and Gorakhpur took part in the literary evening when they recited their poems. The prominent poets included Rajkumar Saini, Hindi writer and critic, Seemab Sultanpuri, Urdu poet, Balasubramaniam, Hindi poet, Surender Singh Pammi, Punjabi poet, Amod Kumar, Hindi poet, Munnavar Sarhaddi, Urdu poet, Satheesh Sagar, Journalist, Hindustan, and others.
