News and Events RUSSIAN POET AND ACTOR VLADIMIR VYSOTSKY REMEMBERED

New Delhi. January 9, 2008: :Rich tributes were paid by speakers to eminent Russian Poet, Bard and Actor Vladimir Vysotsky at a Literary Evening, dedicated to his 70th Birth Anniversary, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Parichay Sahitya Parishad at 24, Ferozeshah Road, here, on January 8, 2008.

Mrs. Maria B. Pavlova, Senior Executive and Programme Coordinator, Russian Centre of Science & Culture, made a Multi-Media Presentation highlighting the multi-faceted talent of Vladimir Vysotsky, whose career had an immense and enduring effect on Russian culture. He achieved remarkable fame during his lifetime and to this day exerts significant influence on many of Russia's popular musicians and actors who wish to emulate his iconic status, she added. The Presentation pinpointed the artist-poet's immense popularity by virtue of his unique singing style and impressive lyrics. It can be said without exaggeration that one could not afford to ignore the musical phenomenon created by Vladimir Vysotsky.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Gadzy M. Akhmedov, Deputy Director of RCSC, pointed out that the Exhibition assumes historic significance as it occurs just ahead of the forthcoming anniversary of the Republic Day of India, and assumes special dimension for being within the framework of the landmark Year of Russia in India. He congratulated the young artists, both from India and Russia, in their excellence and described them as the promise of future.

Mrs. Urmil Satyabhushan, President, Parichay Sahitya Parishad, paying homage to Vladimir Vysotsky, pointed out that the remarkable contributions made by this multi-dimensional personality would continue to inspire the writers, poets and musicians of world nations cutting across all barriers.

On the occasion, Mrs. Urmil Satyabhushan also felicitated Shri Jagdish Jain, outstanding poet and Ex-President of "Halga a Tashan Gave-Adab" (Circle of Literary Admirers), in appreciation of his contributions to the promotion of Urdu and Hindi literature and communal harmony. Mr. Shravan Kumar Urmaliya, a satirist poet and novelist, also spoke at the function.
